When I started training...

I wish I had known that simple can be effective. Start with the basics. Keep returning to the basics.


I spent a lot of time and energy looking for the fast route to skinny. 4-week programs that promised to leave me shredded. Endless burpees. Two-a-day workouts.


I was training to look a certain way, not to feel a certain way. I was trying to outwork my poor nutrition and binge drinking.


I wish I had known the value of consistency. That instead of grinding, I'd get more effective results with patience.


I wish I'd understood that being "lean" 24/7 wasn't an indicator of health, and that bodies are meant to change size.


I wish I'd known that health doesn't have a size.


I'm so grateful that it didn't take me my whole life to figure out why I love to move - and that sometimes saying "no, thanks" is the healthiest form of self love.


I'm grateful to know that consistency includes rest.


And that "health is a resource to support an individual's function in wider society - not an end in itself."


It's not about the short term. It's about great behavior changes that change you on a fundamental level, and ripple out into the collective.


When you take good care of yourself, you can take better care of the world.


I wish I'd realized that my health had to start from within, it had to be something I felt on my own, and only then could I make it make sense.
